Chess is a mind competition.

There is already the right term for chess : competition. Sport is a type of competition that requires physical skills. You can pretend not to see this abysmal difference, others don't, so they will never consider chess as a sport except in a way of speaking.

And this doesn't mean that chess is diminished.
