Chess is all about memorization and it's boring

Bro, we could decide my first 5 moves with dice and I would beat you.

And I guess you're a troll anyway, because it's easy enough to google youngest GM (not that I need to, because my memory is good enough tongue.png)

Anyway, it's like complaining a pianist wouldn't be so good if he didn't memorize the music. "Make him play an instrument he's never practiced, and don't let him see the sheet music until it's time to play! That's real talent!"

No, that's not real talent, that's real stupid. All skills requires immense practice. It's just people look down on chess by not realizing it's a skill.

Technically he could beat you via the scholars or fools mate though you'd need to be really unlucky for that.

If is so boring my friend... why not shut up and go play checker... or domino.

Lion has spoken.

Ok, so for stuff like recaptures and mate in 1 threats I get to make a move on my own grin.png

Yes.

But, what lies beneath?  What lies beneath the memorization?  Why?  Why is what’s being memorized the valid move possibility?  The answer is why Magnus stole the crown from Vishy.  Want to know?

Not really. It's totally boring. It's all memory. My short term memory is really bad which is why I don't excel at chess. My as well just play the memory game with the cards. replace cards with chess pieces. snooze.

don't memorize, UNDERSTAND.

Keep telling yourself that and maybe you'll keep believing it. But yes you would beat me. Good for you. My advise would be to put that on your resume. "Big bad Advanced chess man, Beat novice chess player" I'm sure you'll go far in life.

I don't play. I've played two games of chess in the last year, but I like to discuss chess.

This game that you played had a 60min time control, and you both still missed some basic tactics... which part of this is memory??? Please explain.

IM Bacon "I can "memorize" a book on open heart surgery, but i doubt anyone would want me to crack their chest open and operate on them." I guess the point is, if you could memorize a book on open heart surgery. I would rather you operate on me than anyone else. The whole discussion rest on the fact that you cant remember that much text. If you could you would be a surgeon.

You didn't explain it. You missing that Nxb3 comes with check is not a memorization issue. You both were well out of opening theory territory quite early on lol.

Simple explanation really. In order to lose any one thing, in this case, memory of skills obtained. One must first obtain the requisite skills in order to lose memory of them.

@timothy, whenever I try to quote you it makes the post look like a jumbled mess. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Simply not seeing a certain move your opponent has is not memory... lol. Players blunder all the time simply because they were too lazy to do a blunder check, they also blunder because they failed to consider certain moves, etc. What the OP says is that he thinks chess is all about "remembering moves and counter moves" ie rote memory, which is simply not the case.

I got to where I am in chess without memorizing anything and only having a vague idea of how to play queens gambit and Sicilian.  chess is fun.  I can see how it might be difficult to enjoy it when you're focus with chess is to troll forums.  I can see you chortling and rolling in your own festering troll dung under a bridge somewhere.  please just drown yourself.

I am at a lost as to why it appears to me as if we are in disagreement when in all actuality I agree with you 100%. Be that as it may, the augmented facts continue to support a sub-conscious state of mind insofar as your mood thus becomes a contingency of whether your performance is better than the time one played the previous game. One other factor howevethat is relative. It is not certain if an Autistic individual will repeat the same mistakes, or will he continue to recognize the patterns that lead him to fantastic wins in the past. In that mood steers the autistic into which direction?

Opening theory is just a series of moves. That's what chess really is. A series of moves. If I used a certain opener, and the opponent knows this opener then he can counter with another series of moves. Again it's all memorization.

'opening theory is just a series of moves' really??? In the game  I posted of yours  when you missed the move that allowed your opponent to take your queen... you're telling me that's opening theory? You have alot more to worry about than your memory problem, you have critical thinking problems. I can see from your previous threads you started that all you like to do is cry about how you are bad at chess/hate chess and think its boring. Just face the truth, you suck at chess and want to make excuses for why you suck. Instead of losing tons of games and sticking it out while learning how to get better like many others do, you want to cry and say chess is all about memory/ you have bad memory therefore that's why you cant play well. The reason you suck at chess is because you put no effort into it and cry like a child.
