Chess is an unfair flawed nefarious game that only addicted villains choose to play indefinitely

You have a ridiculous contention. Your arguments are stupid, I don't know how the heck you could compare chess to gambling and alcohol but that is extremely farfetched. Chess is just a fun, competitive, hobby for me when I have nothing better to do, there are very few people out there who are seriously addicted to chess accept maybe you which is no one else's problem.

Come to my last and most important point, and perhaps my biggest reason why I quit the game. Chess is evil. Yeah, I'm not exaggerating or being dramatic here, I'm 100% serious. I would go so far as to say it's Satan's incarnate in board games.

This might be why Paul Morphy quit chess after all. He invoked Satan with this god like chess mastery, finding out it was an evil game--deciding to never play again.

I think he quit for the same reasons Bobby Fischer did.  Didn't like people and the publicity,  Didn't find it sporting after a while,  and Didn't think it was a practical career move or respected enough by society.

Certainly Morphys parents thought that...It was fine as a way to spend ones leisure time but in the antebellum south, it would be scandalous to accept money for it. When Morphy went to New York and then to Europe he only accepted gifts for winning but NEVER cash for fear his parents would hear about it. And like you said...when you've beaten everyone else in the world who mattered it sort of looses it's luster.

He died penniless in his mothers house as a failed lawyer.  He was probably worried about them writing him out of his inheritance.  I think back in his day,  like many see e-sports nowadays,  it was not something that was seen as a respectable or stable profession.   Like Fischer he also detested the spotlight and the media usually trashed him because of it.  They said he deteriorated into madness in the end.  Usually citing the dispute he had with his family over the inheritance, where he had paranoid thoughts about them trying to kill him.

Yeah, his father was a La. state supreme court judge and was extremely wealthy for the time. Morphys future was written for him the day he was born. He would be a lawyer. Making a living at chess was considered the same as being a river boat gambler. You could do it, but it wasn't gentlemanly. The lawsuit with his brother in-law over mismanaging his fathers estate certainly weighed heavily on his mind in the end. He ended up walking the streets on NOLA muttering to himself about how life kicked him in the teeth and was not only paranoid they were trying to kill him but also steal his shoes. Just so sad...

U r taking chess way too seriously. I am not saying that you shouldn't take it seriously. You should. Just a little bit. So keep calm and move on.

That's nice actually. Failed lawyers, contrary to the successful ones, are usually good guys.

To be a good lawyer you have to be a people person, which he clearly wasn't, not many chess players are.   I mean the guy could of  used his fame to his advantage,  but he refused to and refused clients just on that fact alone.

There was also the point of his rather sketchy Civil War service. The locals thought he'd been a little to chummy with the "vile and filthy yankees" up in New York before the war. Not exactly good for business.

Can we just take a moment and give credit to the OP for taking trolling to the next level?
