That is fine with me, when i am 60 and all the football players and jocks now way 300 pounds and spend all day dreaming about how great they were back in the day i will still be enjoying my hobby
That's just your opinion. Some people like to take it serious as a sport, and some don't. there's nothing wrong with your opinion, its just that chess.com probably isnt the best place to express that thought.

It is not my opinion. It's Jón Gnarr opinion! I take chess seriously! I just think that's very funny what he said!
I tend to agree that chess is a game, not a sport. Monopoly, trivial pursuit, tic tac toe, Wheel of Fortune, hangman, and probably golf are all not sports.

It depends on what we're classifying as sports, if ping-pong is, so is chess :P The same would go for curling, bowling, and golf (to some extent).

no: ping pong is a sport because the outcome depends on your physical performances.
you don't win or lose chess games depending on how your hands move the pieces.

If I move my pawn to e4 instead of e3, it absolutely affects my performance. How about blitz? Everything we do has some basis in physical performance, hence why I think your definition of a sport if lacking. If a sport requires physical exertion, ping pong is out also.
Why would the terms sport and hobby be mutually exclusive? I think chess can be both. For Carlsen it's a little more sport, for me a tad more hobby.
