Chess is NOT a sport!!!

hmmm... ever notice how this thread keeps moving in circle?.

"chess is not a sport" is getting boring and outdated. how about...
chess is NOT a word!!!
I hate how people say chess is a word. Its so STUPID. chess could never be a word. Chess is a way of spending time and that can't be a word. For a word by itself can't be a way of wasting time...
Therefore chess is NOT a word. And please don't try to ARGUE I know I know some poeple get all OFFENDED right now, using chess as a word all the time.
So go ahead and ague, but I know I'm right.

Well, Im sorry to say this: chess is a non-physical sport.
Physical activity: Energetic action or movement pertaining to the body as distinguished from the mind or spirit.
Chess is energitic. I hope I'm not teaching you that the brain is one of the hungriest organs in terms of energy. I defy you to play chess effectively after a day of fast or not having slept for the last 24h.
However, you are indeed making a point here, because we can't call chess a sport withouth using an euphemism like: "chess is kind of a sport". But you can never say that chess isn't a sport (full stop).
Chess isn't a sport in a fundamental way, but in many other ways it is. For exemple even though it ism't phsical, it is energetic, but also folows rule, is engaged for leasure or competition, etc. We could realy dissert on this topic, butthat should boremost readers, even more since either they don't care whether chess is a sport or they have alread thought it out for themselves.

So if I argue with you, do I go on your troll list too?

No, not really,
Actually I just lost a vote chess game against chess.com and revaled my true identity. Now people are geting bored with me so I thought, I have to start a new topic to piss people off:)

Ladies and gents:
For your info....
1. Play Chess
2. Enjoy Chess
3. Meet interesting people
4. Forge friendships
5. Be competitive (but remember point 2)
6. Describe Chess as a sport or any other way you damn well want too!! WHO CARES!!

physical activity isn't mentioned in the oxford definition of sport...and chess is recognized as a sport by the IOC

that is excatly what we've been trying say!
and is the same as there are contact and non-contact sports

that is excatly what we've been trying say!
i am more of an exdogly person myself but it takes all kinds i suppose

A reason why chess shouldn't want to be considered a sport -
It would be in the same category as the following activities-
peeing for distance
eating competitions
drinking competitions
falling over... i mean soccer... i mean football :P (if this offends you... take a moment and smile)
professional wrestling
reality television
egg on spoon races
sheep shearing
who can jump the furth(er)est
who can jump the furth(er)est without running
nascar
throwing* things far away (javelin, shotput, discuss, etc)
breaking things (with the boards and the ice etc)
and the list goes on

hint: they will be the ones who cant resist responding to this topic with anger and argument. You may as well try to argue that we live on the moon.
but we do live on the moon, don't we?
oh, and by the way... Wiki says:
Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports (a common name for some card games and board games (comment by me: chess including) with little to no element of chance) and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors.

I was going to let this topic die on its own, but it appears it CANNOT. It still lives.
NOW IM REALLY MAD!!! Just as chess is NOT a sport, as I have PROVEN, anything that has the term WIKI attached to it is PROVEN to be NOT CREDIBLE.
Wikipedia should never ever ever ever, did I mention NEVER, be used to cite ANYTHING. It has an abysmal track record of misquotes, lies, falsehoods, fraudulent claims, etc. Only the hyper intelligent folks (like me) never ever ever ever, did I mention NEVER, consult wikipedia on anything at anytime.

Hah Ive never heard anyone intelligent using the term hyper inteligent. amusing.
Now that I think of it I never hear intelligent people saying they are, and someone intelligent like yourself should know the numbers on poeple pretending to be someone else on the internet. Not very credible.
You're right about the wikipedia issue. It's easy to manipulate facts, on purpose or not. Just like you do yourself. Like you have proven, and by the way you prove.
Hey you should be on wikipedia!

bastiaan, i so enjoyed your post, firstly as i am in agreement that genuinely intelligent people are just happy to be so and do not have to broadcast it.
the second item was in typing people for the second time you unintentionally transposed the e and o and in one of our 11 official languages the result was quite close to the word "poephol" which in turn translates back as approximately "ignoranus" - i'm sure you will now find it quite appropriately used
