Chess actually represent war on a battle field. There is a winner a loser and sometimes just a draw.

Here is the link to the blog I wrote about chess as WAR!

Main character is the expendable pawn that are always sacrificed to mate the king.

The knight also plays a role in this battle.

nice ideas about chess sir, perhaps if chess is war, i am also a field general manipulating every chess pieces  coordination for offense  and defense andfinallymaneuvering and marching toward victory.sir if you chose to be a pawn and a knight, they are both expendables just like you said sir,its more to be a king sir.because you are also the king of yourself.sir honestly i enjoy reading your topicsit adds  like sparks to life and to add  to ones knowledge.

Hi Benju

I have read his five of his books and one of his quote is:

"Why is it that I am such a popular fellow, but not many like to read the books I write?"

When I was a teenager Einstein lived nearby and taught at Berkeley. I didn't even know he was around.

My newest hero is Stephen Hawking's. I've read four of his books and seen three of his videos. I am amazed of that man in a wheel chair unable to move anything except his mind and communicated with old technology.

sir denver high, albert einstein died april 18,l955 that is 56 years ago from today so you were 17 years by the time of his death. yes it was albert einstein fault for not knowing you and also your fault to not  getting interested in him at your teen years. sir denver high, dont worry about getting popular too much. the law of attraction is not like a huge magnet just like the earth  magnet to attract gravitation effects.some people are attracted to only their choices and belief and stand.,and personal liking.sir ,i like your topics especially when it comes to an old man, me too im getting by next year i am going to be 57 years old.

Benju 13:

Ah . . . . If only to be 57 again. The years at an older age come quicker and my old friends are departing without warning. You are still a spring chicken.

At 57 I was still playing soccer in the Men's over 30 league. I could still run on my own legs and I could make moves with the soccer ball to outwit the young opponents.

I was never tackled and knocked off my feet as I passed the ball to another team mate.  However when the tackle came, I was in the air and accidentally would land on their legs with my cleats.

              Bye for now my friend.

50 years ago (seems about right) I read a very short story (page and-a-half) where a soldier was recounting a battle that was just ending. He was describing the loss of knights and other soldiers as their position began to crumble and all looked lost. His King was resigning.

Then, a different sort of fear gripped him as the whole battle field began to tremble and the survivors of the battling armies started to slide into oblivion - back into a box.

It was quiet the twist on telling the tale of a chess game from a pawn's perspective. The book was  a 200+ page collection of fantasy and science-fiction stories. I have no idea, now, who the author was or the story's title.

War on a battlefield indeed.

It would be nice to know the name of the book you mentioned. . . I love short stories.

I have tried for many years to find that story, and several others. Unfortunately, I've never been able to do so.
