Chess Medication?

I just want to know if there is anybody who is on any kind of attention disorder or mood disorder medications which have actually enhanced their chess focus/performance.

I do mean doctor prescribed, not junkie behavior.

would coffee qualify?    although not doctor prescribed, it works well.

I remember reading (some years back) that a little coffee helps ADHD kids settle down - and remember how, when I was about 5, my parents started giving my brother and me each a half cup of coffee every morning.   I stop after 2 cups each day - more gives me the 'jitters', and less isn't satisfactory.

Coffee makes one settle down? it personally keeps me active.  I would also qualify coffee as junkie behavior because caffeine is considered a drug.

I find a mixture of 50% coffee and 50% Baileys helps immensely.  25/75 is even better !Smile

Try Piracetam (Nootropic - can be purchased freely). Make sure you take it with Choline too (eggs are a good source).

Also, getting a good amount of Omega 3's daily is one of the best things you can do for your brain. You can google for studies, but there's been a few on increase in IQ and one on speeding up processing of simple math.

Creatine was shown to increase performance on IQ tests in a study.

I can't say how any of these will affect your Chess though or focus for that matter.

I am thinking that I have some kind of deficit of something.  perhaps I will see if I can get it checked.  I get so much Omega 3 as it is.  thanks for the ideas.

Adderall for focus, mixed with vodka for fun! Suddenly, when you lose to someone 2-3 hundred points below you, you say to yourself, "It was their time".Wink

You're better off studying tactics and analyzing your own games.

Mmm, Bailey's. Soft creamy beige.

I have ADHD, I just learn patterns.

Iwas diagnosed with ADHD. That's why I decided to try to learn chess. I heard it improves your concentration. Haven't been at it long enough to know for sure though.

The answer to your question is amphetamine. Yes, it is a drug. It gives dependence. Paul Erdos, considered by many the greatest mathematician of the 20th century was known to work continuously all day long fueled by amphetamines. Maybe it's not worth going that way and accept yourself the way you are.

In lieu of Baileys you could use Carolans.

I got a joke in my Christmas Cracker:

Q  What do you say to somebody with Attention deficit disorder?

A  These are great crackers.  Where did you get them?

The old ones are the best.

Q  What's worse than finding a whole worm in your apple?

A  9/11.

Do they make a brain steroid? If so how can I get some? Maybe an Alzheimer medication so I would remember not to drop so many pieces would also help.

Sleep works best for me. Sometimes a nap after work and before I go to chess club. Otherwise coffee.
