why does chess.com use the notation it uses instead of SAN (standard algebraic notation)
SAN seems so much easier to deal with
for example Nxe5 - knight captures pawn in the 5 square
in SAN it might simply be: f3e5
no need to say knight, no need to say capture, no need to say pawn
it's all obvious
is it because they consider the notation they do use more complete and thorough for recording tournament games?
f3e5 actually looks complicated to me
The notation used here is the standard official notation for OTB play.
Nxe5 is legal SAN, and it is sometimes called abbreviated SAN, or something.
