Chess Notation - why this one?

why does chess.com use the notation it uses instead of SAN (standard algebraic notation)

SAN seems so much easier to deal with

for example Nxe5 -  knight captures pawn in the 5 square

in SAN it might simply be:  f3e5

no need to say knight, no need to say capture, no need to say pawn

it's all obvious

is it because they consider the notation they do use more complete and thorough for recording tournament games?

f3e5 actually looks complicated to me

The notation used here is the standard official notation for OTB play.

Nxe5 is legal SAN, and it is sometimes called abbreviated SAN, or something.
