Chess Over The Years - Your Take

Hello fellow chess players!

So I've been playing chess for about 6 months now (I'm a complete noob still), and I play about an hour a day. I'm not overly serious (I don't necessarily train, but I do try to learn from my mistakes and improve) and I've taken a week break here and there, but I enjoy improving and always find myself coming back to play a game or two, and then before I know it, I'm OBSESSED again. It's interesting how improvement comes in waves for me, and I'll sometimes win 10 games in a row (which is incredibly rewarding). However, there have been times where my chess rating hasn't moved in months...

I've been thinking that I'd like to continue playing Chess for a very long time (decades if I can!), and slowly improve over the years. What I wanted to know from life-long players, was how the game of Chess changed for them over time? Did you have times where you quit for long periods of time then rediscovered Chess? Or did you continue playing every day continually? And lastly, was your dedication well worth your time?

So far for me, it's been an incredibly rewarding experience, and only has gotten better with the more experience I gain. I'm just curious how people feel about playing after YEARS or even DECADES of experience.

I've been playing for many years, first taught how to play by my mum when I was about 4 years old. I'm coming back to the game after many years of not playing, I think that's important, at least for me, taking a break when you think you need too, refresh your batteries, so to speak. I enjoy the game and the tactical play and in all the time I've been playing it changes every time I play. Each opponent is different, some play defensively and others are more aggressive, I like that varied gameplay. If I can make one suggestion to you I'd say ignore your rating, play for the enjoyment of the game and your rating will follow.
