What do you mean by "addicted to chess"?

Obsessed

How would you decide if a professional chess player is obsessed with chess? I bet all the grandmasters think about chess all-the-time. It is their profession, after all.

Lasker would win the "strongest player least addicted to chess"-competition easily. He considered philosophy and maths serious subjects, that he dedicated himself to. And then he played some chess now and then since he thought it was fun, and did it quite well considering how little he saw and treated it as a serious profession.

To be a super GM you got to be obsessed...

Compared to Fischer and Alekhine, no one else comes to mind ... at least not at their level of monomania.

Tal was addicted to the game, but in a more healthy way ... he simply loved the game and couldn't stop playing.  But he didn't have an unhealthy obsession with studying the game to perfect his game to crush all who opposed him.

i think 15% chess players are obsessed!
