Not to mention that the biggest whiners are mostly free users.
chess players too sensitive?
I've been to one other chess forum, and it was about the same amounts of hyper-sensitivity, lack of ability to understand a joke, taking everything literally, inflexibility etc.
i'm not distinguishing between paying and non-paying members, but i'd imagine that most complaints come from non-paying members. although at the same time, there are obviously more non-paying members than paying members, and i don't actually know the percentages/ratios. so it is possible that the same percentage of paying and non-paying members complain equally.
this is still all besides the point though.

may i ask which site?
I bet people are even more sensitive on forums about a subject even nerdier. But what's nerdier than chess? Dungeons and Dragons perhaps?
I think it's probably the fact that chess attracts many eccentrics and people with various quirks ...

Oh damn, I sure miss WoW forums. Whine heaven.
the only thing that bothers me is when-
1.someone lower rated asks for help
2.a higher rated player takes the time to give a nice, informative answer.
3. the lower rated player gets overdefensive and decides to deny what the adviser is saying, and trolls.
This is the only place I take part in any forums and I am frequently amazed how so few people have a grasp of irony and how many people get offended by pretty much anything.
I don't think it's just limited to chess.com users, but have no experience to back up this claim.

It must take some skill to switch from forum to forum. What would happen if you got mixed up?

Let's see.
We've got people whining about the lack of free speech here, since apparently some people cannot play a game of chess without using cursewords to describe their strategies.
Weightlifting and WoW can be mixed up as well without repercussions. "I shall destroy your puny mortal shell. You are nothing compared to me." - It's pretty orcish at times, I imagine.
That leaves philosophy which shouldn't of course be mixed up with anything...
Btw. Do you know what you get when you combine an insomniac, agnostic and a dyslexic?

i've been a participant on quite a few different forums over my life, and i have to admit that chess.com forumers seem to be the most sensitive i've ever come across. this being my only chess site i belong to, my question is: is the sensitivity level shown on chess.com normal for chess forums, or is it just uniqe to this site and the people who belong to it?
the reason i'm asking is mainly due to the constant complaining of so many people every single time chess.com makes any slight change to the site (and imo, these changes have pretty much all been for the benefit of everyone).
(the following is used as an example only and should not be considered the main point of this thread. if you disagree that color choice should be allowed in rated games, please go voice your opinion in the million other threads that discuss it.)
the obvious recent example of this is the choice of playing colors in live, rated games. the reason this option was removed was because people were inflating their ratings (which in turn influence everyone else's ratings) by playing only the color they were best with. this is pretty much tantamount to cheating if you ask me. chess.com noticed the issue and corrected it. people can still choose to play a specific color, but just in unrated games or direct challenges to friends. despite this fact, people have created tons of threads complaining and whining about this alleged loss of 'freedom'.
