Chess Psychology

I am not talking about aggressiveness on the board rather than the enjoyment most of the people seeks out from chess, especially strong players. Their is something secret about their play, including child prodigy.For me, there are two type of people.First one who focus on their rating improvement & second one who enjoyed chess everyday they proud of their games played & they can spend whole by seeing their good pattern like checkmates & some other strategies. They become feel confident everyday. I just wanna asking is am I right on this? Should GM,IM,NM are rating seeker or game seeker? What should we can learn from this perspective? Anyone?
