hey,

i only just started on chess.com and i am very much a beginner at chess.

i have mucked around a bit playing silly and have either won or drawn but have never beaten easy medium or hard. then today i went to play and by default i was playing against hard and thought instead of starting again i would just see how i went. i kind of tried my hardest and was doing ok till i made a few bad moves. anyways, i was quite a few peices down and close to losing and then i all of the sudden the computer made a really bad move and i won.

i would really be keen to know so appreciate any feedback...

cheers

i would like to know... did i get lucky here against the comp, was it a glitch of some kind...or am i a genius.

Well, you might be a genius, but it doesn't sound like this would be a game to cite to prove the point.  Now, when you whip a computer that has made only good moves, you might have some better evidence to make your case. Cool

"a game to cite to prove the point"

sorry i dont understand. are you saying the comp program on this site is not so good and reliable??

I would have thought this sites comp on 'hard' would only make good moves. I am more involved in poker and i know that poker computers are mostly crappy, but i thought chess comps would be better as chess is more so (obv not completely) a mathematically solvable game...

Sorry, since you didn't post the game I had to rely on your own description in your first post:

all of the sudden the computer made a really bad move and i won.

We are saying that you have no proof that you beat the computer, for all we know you might be making this all up.

TruckYaeger

I posted it above!! Is that not enough???

ImaBullet

Wow that computer played some really horrible moves, arent you sure you werent playing it in Super easy settings.

TruckYaeger

nah mate, defs hard!!

Yoshirools

Not sure about this, what's your OTB rating? If it's higher than 2200, then it must have been an easy win.

sjordanico

where here to play chess...... not to be rated or for a rate!!!!!

Acapulco

I am awful at Blitz, don't like it at all. Having said that I am not much good at long games eitherCry

I have always had this problem: losing my concentration with players rated lower than me. I can't tell you how many games I lost when I had either a material or positional advantage against a lower rated player. It seemed that it was exactly at the point where I realized that I had a "won" game, that my brain would go for a little stroll in the park and before I knew it my opponent would have turned the tables on me. This never happened if my opponent was rated at my level or above me. I wish I didn't know my opponents rating until after the game. Then maybe I'd take everyone equally seriously.

Being chess-oriented is being Royal, dt is why @ Royalty Chess we hv got all hands on deck to see to it dt we make a Royalty of d kids under our tutelage.

If it seems that occurs, pay attention to the board and not the person. Same applies for offline. I have before done what you have done so now I rarely look at the ratings before.

Hi MAX.D you can over come this by unearthing the opponents ratings by clicking on index profile located on the left hand top corner!!

Oh yes it does! How well you play includes how well you manage your time. Time is as much part of Chess as it is in other games. In football you could score the greatest goal in history, but if the referee blows time before it goes in it doesn't count. Similarly in Chess if you don't get your moves in within the time, you lose, and correctly so.

I could be wrong, but I assume she's talking about blitz games. There are lots of people who are great blitz players but terrible in long games, and vice versa.

yea thats right, and i think long games are better..

khlarenschess

i think 1000 is the average rating...i played other chess playing site like chessboss and it gives you 1000 as a starting rate.

Why then did I go down from 1200 (to 1361) when I beat someone who has a rating above 1200 (1089)?? Admittedly don't have time to read the article... but hoping someone knows how this works anyway!

Uhhhh, what?  It's rating, not RANKING.  The bigger the number the better.  You don't want to be #1 because your rating is 1, trust me.

mockyykcom

how can i make a puzzle here???
