Chess rating system

Hi, what I don't understand is why in some games my ratings change when I win/lose, but at other times they don't.

I've played about 6 games in a row now, with different results, but my rating has stayed at 1190 after each game. I'm really keen to get back to the 1200 I started with 

Apologies in advance that this question has probably been answered somewhere, I just don't know where to look.

Hi, any thoughts or directions yet as to where I can find which games count for ranking purposes.

I've just played four games in a row, all against higher ranked opponents, three of whom were ranked 100 points or more higher. I won three of those games, yet guess what the only one that affected my ranking was the one I lost 

I've played both black and white during those, help from confused of England

It's really very simple.  Rated games count for ranking purposes.  Unrated games do not.  I haven't been playing live so I'm not exactly sure where the box that you check for rated or unrated is located, but I'm sure you will find it.   Likewise when you go looking for a game, some are listed as rated and some unrated.

Cheers Baddogno, that helps a lot. So I have to look out for the rated box/indicator/whatever.

Well it depends on the type of games you played.If  the games were unrated, the Ratings will not change. and you can not retrieve your starting 1200 until you win more in rated games. If you change your ID whcic is not ehical, you may start a fresh and get 1200 opening !! Better we suggest, you play more, exercis e with Tactics trainer,Chess Mentor and the like. You will do better ahead.

I think you should ask the site manager.  I and a few other players, have noticed a glitch on meebo; This may be a part of it as well.  Let's us know what they tell you.

this is why you're given a blitz and a standard rating as well as others.  you can be rated at different time controls!

now my starting time of play chess so i want to know how sets the rating system .........................   just knowledge

@rookie10ab ... one small info point ... click on "Details"on the game page then click again below on  "Show rating adjustments"  Whether rated or not is decided by option chosen when creating new game or challenge.
