Chess Ratings

Hi Everyone,

   I was wondering: How do you get an FIDE rating? Is it available only through tournaments? Can I get an official rating? Or do I just need to play someone with a rating? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you lochness, I have now discovored that I need to play about 26 games before you get a rating, and then you start with a rating of 800. Until then, you are "unrated".

You need to play against FIDE rated people in FIDE-rated tournaments :-)

And if I remember correctly, 9 games should be enough to get a rating (provided you score).

They meant you'll get a USCF rating after about 26 games.

I think you guys are talking about the U.S.C.F rating, that you get when buying a membership in the USA and playing there.

It's different from FIDE. 

Unless things have changed drastically since I Directed in the 1980's, USCF provisional rating would be calculated this way:

The first 20 games are Provisional, and you must complete four games before your first Provisional rating is calculated. The calculation is as follows:

For each opponent you play you add together all of their ratings. Now add 400 points to that total for each game that you Won. Then subtract 400 points from what remains for each Loss that you had. If a game was a Draw, then it does not add or subtract any more points. Take that number that is remaining after you have added and subtracted for your wins & losses; then Divide it by the number of games you played in the event. The result of that calculation would be your USCF Provisional Elo Rating.

For example, your first event you play 5 games. Your opponents in each round are rated as follows: #1)1800  #2)1600  #3)1630  #4)1920  #5)1550 and your results were as follows: #1)Lost  #2)Draw  #3)Won  #4)Lost  #5)Draw.

Thus 1800+1600+1630+1920+1550 = 8500

Win vs Loss vs Draws calculation starting with #1 on thru #5 is: -400+0+400-400+0 = -400. Therefore now 8500 -400 = 8100.

8100 divided by 5 opponent = 1620, thus your Provisional Rating is 1620 for that event.

ok i have a example 1189 vs 1389 if you have >100-150< you go to 50 up raiting  if you have >200-300< you  go up raiting 25.{depend by the game and the raiting lower or highest with your raiting} vote for me

My Daily Rating is 1600 and my Blitz [only ever played 10 min.games. ]  is 1235 .  What can I conclude from these Ratings. ?

You can conclude that you're a long way from GM . Keep playing and having fun bro!

Don't want to achieve GM status just constructive advise on improving my Game.

You can't convert to FIDE or USCF ratings from chess.com ratings.
