Chess Rules

I was wondering about a particular rule in chess, "Players may not use any notes"  I realize the obvious, you cannot bring prepared notes into the game.  Can someone bring a piece of paper, other than the score sheet, and use it to make notes or scribble possible lines of play??

The reason I ask is due to my medical condition, my thought processes are not very good.  While I will accept, and anticipate, a negative response, i just want to make sure, before commiting an error in rated otb play.

I wouldn't think it would be allowed and whilst I sympathise, I think I'd be upset if my opponent did this and would refuse to play.

I've had the opportunity to play a blind player once and he was allowed his own special wee set. I suppose he could work stuff ahead on that but then I've tried blindfold chess and its pretty hard.

If in doubt ask the arbiter of the competition first.

I am pretty sure you can write down anything you want once you get there. There is no rule specifically allowing for the use of a scorecard, and players use those. If you feel your thought processes are not very good, though, why are you going to be playing tournaments?

Local Tourneys.  It is a release for me.  I deal with noise and stress daily, I need to do something calm and quiet.
