Chess Skill Level

When I first made my chess.com account, I put my skill level as beginner. I quickly realized that it was a mistake and I wanted to go down because I was getting absolutely destroyed in every match I played, how do I change my skill rating or is there any other way to get my ELO down so I can actually play properly.

You can't change that. All it does is sets your initial rating and if you're really not at that level you'll quickly get to a more stable rating just by playing some games.

Yeah I made a similar mistake. Just keep playing and eventually you'll reach your respective ELO. I warn you though, it may be difficult emotionally on the way down because until then, like you said, you'll get pummeled.
