If you don't already have one, why not purchase a good chess engine? Fritz, Rybka, (or even Chessmaster)...

what's the difference between fritz and deep fritz?
Deep fritz is programmed to take advantage of multiple CPU's. The regular fritz only uses a single CPU.
The best chess program is Rybka 3. It's the world champion computer chess program. However, the most user friendly is Chessmaster.
Hello everyone,
I received a gift certificate for an online chess store for Christmas. It is for $40, and I'm willing to put in another $40 to spend up to $80 on something. I was thinking of some type of software over books or boards. Does anyone have a good suggestion? I have no chess programs at the moment. I am currently rated 1807 on the site. I really like the Chess Mentor here, but I don't think you can get that on the site i have a gift certificate for. Are there any similar programs?
Thanks in advance for your recommendations.
