I recently watched a video about how to improve your chess discussed by a popular IM.He said that focusing on your strengths will help you improve much faster  than studying your own weaknesses...

I'm confused now. This is contrary to what i've known. Please share your thoughts guys, based on your experience..thanks Smile

Same here - I thought you should look for warm spots in your game and focus on them. Maybe he means when playing. Lik, if you are good with tactics, don't steer for strategic heavy games.

Which IM said that, and can you give us a link to the video?

Irmall01 has the right idea: play towards your strengths.

It depends how strong you want to be. Provided your basics (openings, tactics, endgames) are passable, you can ignore your weaknesses altogether if you're just aiming for 2000 or 2200.

Then, the quickest path to improvement is to work on tactics and openings.
