When the value of a piece is reduced by a good move, should the king not benefit from such a move?

Not 100% sure what you are asking but the tactics only accept one line and it should always be the best line. 

 

It is possible to fail a tactic if your move choice is substantially worse than the solution. Your move could still be good, and could be objectively winning, but the solution will likely be more even better. For example, a mate is always considered better than winning material.
