Hey can someone direct me to the definition or/and example of  semi-open/closed position.

Tomorrows_Dream

this guy posts quite a lot of chess vids that are quite useful.. here is a link to the one he made about open and closed games.

They are only 6-8 mins long, so not as good as chess.com ones, but still quite usefull.

There is a great deal of dogma in chess and I think we all get caught up in it to a degree. I think that getting caught up in it too much will hamper one's improvement/enjoyment of the game.

All too true, especially when it comes to doubled pawns and centralizing one's king for the endgame. Many people try to avoid the former and postpone the latter as much as they can.

I once tried to figure all of these things out. I soon gave up.

Games that begin with 1.e4 e5 are conventionally called Open Games, games that begin with 1. e4 and a Black move that is not 1. ...e5 Semi-Open, and games that begin with a White move that is not 1.e4 Closed Games. This is not to be confused with open or closed positions, and you shouldn't necessarily expect open positions to arise from Open Games, or closed positions from Closed Games.
