I’d agree with this, you’re a purple belt! Makes me wanna climb to unlock the purple belt.
Coming from a taekwondo background (so not bjj), I think your black belt elo ratings are too low. I would say black belt elo ratings should start from 2100 at the very least.
I only did boxing, street brawling with crackheads and so on while in my psychossis, so not sure about how accurate this is. Probabbly Well done. Nowadays i only chop down wood and trees outta anger on my propperty when i keep loosing and getting angry at chess.
I think we need to break it down to what percentage of people who start reach black belt level.
For most, martial arts research says it's about 10% maximum who stick with it long enough to achieve black belt.
For chess it's about 10% who achieve 1800+ rating. Only 5% make it up to 2000+, I think those numbers are too low to corelate to black belt. The 5% would have to be higher degrees of black belt. That's why I made 2000+ equivalent to the first degree black belt.
The percentage of people who advance to higher degrees of black belt are minimal compared to those who settle after receiving their black belt.
Also, being a lifelong professional martial artist myself, I believe that black belt is merely a sign of advanced proficiency, as such is a rating of 1800+. The true and arduous journey towards "mastery" starts when you achieve black belt and truly begin to understand what the art is all about.
Last thing I think needs to be addressed in an online chess black belt vs an OTB chess black belt. I highly believe the only Elo rating that really matters in the OTB rating. Though you could get your black belt in online chess the only version that is true is the OTB varation. Most people, especially in the sub 1800 ranks, are 300-500 Elo higher online vs OTB.
