If you don’t play.  You don’t know.  That’s all I say and if you want to play checkers and/or backgammon (I don’t like backgammon much myself but everyone can play whatever and deserves RESPECT) and can’t even find where to play.  Can’t say that shows much.

I play checkers a little bit, but it's not the same as chess. It's not that I dont like checkers. Everyone has to start somewhere.

GM Ivanchuk is very big on checkers. He actually made the rating list in January 2019 (ranked #1,233).

Doesn't show what? Should I stop my life until I find a great backgammon site?

Well they aren’t that difficult to find.  That’s all I am saying.

Maybe you should play it a bit more and play it properly.

I believe he plays Russian checkers.

Why?

I'm past that stage. I have more friends that play checkers than chess, but checkers isn't nearly as interesting. Besides, my kiddos like chess more than checkers.

Everyone likes different things.  That’s what makes the world go around.  I just get fed up with chess players denigrating checkers so they can feel superior.

No one here has "denigrated" checkers, so that they can feel superior.

Isn't checkers that game where every piece moves like a bishop, jumps over pieces like a knight, and promotes like a pawn? It's probably good practice for people who aren't ready for chess yet.

What do you call that.  Except someone saying chess is a superior game.  It is just another game.

What you need to do is start a revolution. But until you do so I will continue to play chess because checkers is boring.  And b4 u start your revolution just remember that throughout history there have been revolutions and while many have suffered and died as a result of them they seldom bring about any real change in society.

I thought that was an amusing, harmless observation (which, if reorganized could work as a neat riddle). Besides, there is truth in the fact that chess' complexity makes it more appealing than checkers, not to take away from people who exclusively play, enjoy, and excel at checkers. If someone has an opinion, they aren't necessarily being smug or feeling superior.

It  isn’t an even opinion where they are saying both games are good.  They are saying people who play checkers aren’t ready for chess yet.    That’s insulting.   I play both and I don’t listen anymore to opinions from chess players who view checkers at a superficial level and have no idea.

That was a joke.

I dont know what you mean by superior. You are right, they are both just games. I like chess more than checkers because checkers isn't nearly as interesting or challenging. I think it has less to do with superiority and more to do with some people are just wound too tight.  I was joking about how the pieces move btw.

I like to play golf, but some people think other sports are better than golf. I certainly dont care if someone likes one recreation over another. Doesn't affect what I like to do. Checkers and chess is sort of like tic tac toe and Battleship. One isn't superior, they are just different. It just seems to make more sense to start with the easy one, especially for kids, then move to the harder one. Some people start with the harder one though.

There you go.  You are saying chess is the harder of the two.  It isn’t the case.  They are different.

Kookaburrra

GO is another game which takes a lifetime to master.  Just like chess and checkers.  They are all different.

pawn8888

The best way to decide it is to have chess versus checkers on the same board and battle it out.

Yes chess is the harder of the two. Everyone knows that. They are different, but just because chess is more difficult, why would you care? I'm not saying one is superior. Harder yes. Just like Battleship is harder than tic tac toe. Learn one then you can move on to the next game that's more difficult.

Chess is NOT harder.  I play both at a reasonable level.  I know.

lfPatriotGames

Yes, chess is more difficult. For lots of reasons. I wouldn't worry so much about chess players who think chess is superior. Instead, just enjoy whatever recreation activity you like.
