Chess will die in a less than 10 years.

I lose all the time. The fact that the odd game may not be genuine has never really occurred to me. Mostly I just get on myself for missing stuff lol. Sitting down at a table and playing over the board with a friend will never die.

I miss this stuff. Playing face to face. And friend. I knew friendly people but not a friend.

It's too easy to say: "Oh he beated me, he's a cheater"
They simply blundered less than you.
You forget that blitz chess is only small part of real chess, and in OTB play you can't cheat.

First of all, chess exists outside of websites.
Secondly, more people play online now than ever. If anything you should expect it to be more popular in the future.
Yes cheating is more common in long time controls online. 20% is a random guess, and no, low rated players aren't cheating. Maybe 1 in 10,000 opponents will be smart enough to cheat and not get caught. Most cheaters are too lazy, and most people don't cheat to begin with.

Inb4 lock.
But seriously, I feel like the chess.com staff should allow some discussion of cheating so this stupid myth about it being impossible or even harder to cheat at low time controls can finally die. I see so many people who are 100% serious when they think that cheating at one minute is impossible and it should be the only time control to take seriously over the internet.
I remember one instance where somebody was so fed up by this myth that he actually linked a completely free browser plugin that anybody can download that requires no programming knowledge that makes a box by the board that displays the best move at any given time. There are other programs which are, again, free and easy to download, which literally plug an engine into your browser that will simply move for you. No mouse even necessary. Cheating at one minute impossible? Really?
The complete "not talk about cheating" philosophy on chess.com is leading to stupid myths like this being perpetuated over and over. There should at least be a cheating FAQ pinned at the top of the general discussion so that people understand basic facts about cheating online, including the number of cheaters and the large percentage and ease at which they get caught. Chess.com uses automated programs to catch other automated programs and it works incredibly well. These cheaters can happen, but they get caught easily and their increase in cleverness is also being met by the increase in cleverness of the automated programs these websites are using to catch cheaters. Even if you don't go for the #1 move every time, you can still be flagged by an automated program.

FAQ with basic cheat info is a good idea, I like it.

My local church hosts our chess club in its social room and has the central heating on full blast in winter. That and cheap beer makes me a happy bunny. Every so often I am expected to shuffle chess pieces around the board ...

Yeah, its a gay bar kid The OP doesn't tell you that he has won 1190 games, lost 1089 games, and drew 90.

1st of all, YOUR no adult. Your an obnoxious troll. 2nd, YOU de-railed the thread by asking about a bar in church. Try to keep up will ya?

@zxzyz: This amazing game you call "chess" is now being adapted so that 2 players can play it on a board with 32 individual pieces. It is being ported to reality. But before you try this new platform, you will need to come up with new excuses for why you are losing. Perhaps your opponent is reading your mind? Better wear a tinfoil hat.
Some people actually think when a player plays really well for their rating, they turn into a cheater. But sometimes these players had a good where they were just crushing other people, but on other days they lose completely. It also helps at looking at that person's archive as to see how normally plays. And to prove my point, I had a game against 2 2000 rated players and would have won both if it wasn't for time and overconfidence. There is also a chance where a guy who hadn't played on chess.com for a long time and came back as a way better player.
I think that the cheating FAQ is a good idea, cause it allows people to know they are facing an actual cheater who has managed to stay of trouble in all this time.

If there were as many cheating accusation in OTB play, as there is online, tournaments would never finish on time.
Its the internet...comsider the source.

"Rat (a good friend of mine on here) Says his club meets in a church and then mentioned cheap beer so I asked him a question". LOL. You ACTUALLY had to read that back to me heh? You forgot to explain your other 2 posts 4 & 13. RAT is not the OP of this thread. So how does your posts address his problem?? The OP's been here for 7 yrs. I'm sure he knows about the policy of cheating threads long before YOU. BTW, another one of YOUR threads just got locked.
,,,unfortunately.
Because of lack of interest by beginners to actually play the game and their stupid preference to use engines to cheat will result in the end of this wonderful game.
if the number of cheaters exceed 20% for any given session esp at sub 2000 rating - the game will be destroyed.
From my observations not all cheaters want to attain rating over 2000 --- first it is a bit difficult to avoid being detected -- so they flounder at lower levels and seem to be thriving. My guess is they are "working" on their super duper cheat program. Others are simply poor players thinking they can improve their play by cheating.
And to note... I think the jig is up for most players above 2000 -- they need to play extremely fast games.. Can you imagine a 2000 rated player expecting a real game of 10 minute blitz? Will not happen.
At 10 minutes anyone can simply have an engine open and copy some moves -- too easy.
I played 4 games yesterday - the first 2 are cheats and the 3rd i lost , 4ht i won.
Sad .....
