chess

i like chess it entertains me but most do not like chess do you know why? i think personaly it seems boring to them do you have any ideas?

Well some people just don't play because they don't have a board and/or they just think it's too hard.

I think it is because they think it's boring. I overheard one guy saying chess has to be the most boring game ever and the other agreed. I totally understood that because until 1 or 2 years ago I thought it was broing! To them, they don't find moving pieces randomly (their strategy is probably just to protect their pieces and try not to lose material) fun. It doesn't get interesting until you understand the strategy and the art of attack. They don't understand the power of a large center or a passed pawn, in other words most people would have no idea of what to do in it. That's why it's important to learn it better to enjoy it because what is the fun of just protecting your pieces?

Chess is boring only for the persons who don't want to win.

In my humble opinion.... chess, like reading, like painting, like playing an instrument, takes an investment of one's self even at a novice level. I think many people prefer to engage in activities that take less involvement. Quiet time, time spent alone, or these "games" that ask one to search inside one's self might be considered boring by those who are more accustomed to having their entertainment delivered without so much effort, i.e. movies, sports, TV. I have found that as I have "matured" I appreciate chess whereas at a much younger age I had to be on the move and chess didn't do it for me. The thought of playing a game that required my mental input with little physical effort was not boring but just uninteresting to me. I liked the game but I just wouldn't sit still long enough to enjoy it if that makes any sense.
