Actually it appears to be an exclusive male only club of chess brothers, gender specific, which in this day and age may be not a little controversial. I have no problem with it myself, only the name sounded initially not a little effeminate although the good people of chess dot com have given us their assurance that its a bona fide Californian surfing style term for brother. In Edinburgh I think the equivalent term is 'home boy', or 'chess hommies!', something like that.
