chess.com got me shamed with Magnus match

If G-Star match was powered by chess.com, I am shamed to be a member. I was following game with three browsers, two on live site, and one on chess.com tv.

Connection was really bad from early start, no chance to vote since beginning. All sites were off sync..

I thought this must be the coolest thing ever, and wanted some g-star jeans to go with it. Not anymore.

I am sorry that I tweeted and facebooked the event.

Shame on you... :-(

Perhaps you should consider the fact that this event was provided free and without any input or effort on your part.

strongly agree with the op

wow. that is pretty harsh considering we allowed 50,000 people to watch and participate in a free game against magnus carlsen. there were MANY moving parts to the game including g-star, chess.com, livestream, and internet pipes.

to say they were out of sync... that's the internet.

a comparable achievement would be to get 1,000 households around the world to simultaneously and harmoniously dance a choreographed dance to michael jackson's thriller all at once in perfect sync.

anyway, i thoroughly enjoyed the match and had a great time with it despite some occasional technical glitches. :)

This really tickled me. Laughing

p.s. If you had three live feeds open simultaneously, then maybe that was part of the reason you had such a poor experience.

Obvious troll is obvious

While I was also a bit dissapointed with the technical difficulties, I'm not sure if taking it as a personal insult is the right way to go.

Conspiracy theory here:-

All the internet knew you was trying to log into the game and deliberately blocked you Tongue out

No personal insult experiences´d here, just bad marketing.

Reminds of the debate about how well the dog talked when the remarkable thing was that the dog talked at all.

Although the format may need some adjustments (seeing the GM's faces would be great, and having a slightly longer game may be good too), I think this was a nice creative effort, and ok, pressing F5 is no overkill (what about a separate windows for live comments, so that they don't stop when you refresh ?) Smile

Pussimatti is obviously not a troll (28 member points accrued in fifteen months), he has a grievance. The guy has said his piece, we don't have to agree but I don't think that a little "rocking of the boat" will do any harm. This site needs some feed-back, especially concerning new facilities.

The match was a one time event :)

Yes, because my profession I have also participated events by levi's and diesel, and No, they didn't ask for my participation, input or effort.

I don't know about you, but I had a feeling that these jeans can't handle heavy use...

Well I hope this was a one-time event in this format of three GMs blinded from each other led through the dark by thousands of mouseclicks. Also the software code seemed to be buggy and not properly foolproofed let alone the hardware interwebz bandwidth blabla. The best part was Liv Tyler coming in totally ignoring the chess thing going on. Oh my god he made that move so FAST! That was a rapid move. Go Magnus! You look so beautiful!

That particular match, sure. I have the feeling similar format events (or presentations of similar complexity) will be broadcast in the future. It would be a pity to waste what Chess.com has already learnt, this time around.

Avatar of Pussimatti

Don't take me wrong, I was really excited about the event, and the format was just excellent, I'm just shamed that technical production wasn't as we expected, and since it was advertised as  "Powered by Chess.com", I felt it as bad publicity.

I hope next time is more pro.

I mainly attended to the audio feed. There are some advantages. As far as I'm concerned, Liv was naked and playing chess...clever marketing to sell jeans.

Erik,

Please be sure to let me know when you have arranged this.  I do not want to miss it.
