You get what you pay for. The people working on this site need to make money somehow.
chess.com is very cheap entertainment. What does it cost to go to a movie these days? $20-$30 for 2 tickets, $10 for one beverage and popcorn.

Actually the cost is included in your taxes, but they just don't break the bill down by individual "service" 
Just as a frame of reference, a Gold Membership, which will allow you to do all of the things you mentioned, comes to less than $.09 USD a day. Less than nine cents, does that really sound like all that much considering what servers and bandwidth alone cost?

My "mom", well that's what my dad tells me anyway, is actually half eskimo, so doesn't feel the cold too much.
My dad tells me that's all the gear he can afford with his social welfare payments, so perhaps there is a store for people on welfare were they can all go to get their clothes?
This does not go nearly far enough. Chess.com should be paying us for the privilege of our patronage. What would this site be without this amazing community? We all work very hard to ensure that there are always games available and discussion to be had. When will we get our due?
