Chess.com point inflation

Hi, I have been wondering if there is inflation on the chess.com points. In normal economy if you print money you get inflation and the value of the money drops, in chess.com (economy) we get more users that get 1200 points when they start. Often they are new to chess and not all of them stick around, some play just a few games, go down to 900-100 points and never visit the site, the points they lost get stuck around in the economy.

So the question remaining is how much better is the 1500 point me compared to 1200 point me two years ago?

Ratings don't really work like that. When a player loses points, those points are not added to the other player; e.g. one player might lose 30 points and the other may only gain 5. If you play a sufficient number of games, your rating should be sufficiently accurate to give the probability of a win/loss against another player of any specific rating (depending on the accuracy of their rating).

While it is still possible to have a inflation relative to older ratings, that really isn't impacted so much by that mechanism, though it can and will skew the site's average ratings.

Yes, inflation happens.  It has happened with FIDE ratings:

And with chess.com ratings: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/chesscom-proposal-how-to-handle-growing-bullet-ratings?page=1

Jerry,

The graph you posted is a very questionable topic. There are many factors that have been proposed for this 'inflation' of the ratings. The least of which is actual inflation.
