I would, but that's a hefty entry fee for someone like me. Maybe next year. :(
Chicago Open 2013

I am seriously considering playing, the entry fee is just so expensive though. $250 is a lot of money, the prize is a lot though....$5000. and I want to make sure I am in top shape to go.....is 3 weeks after my classes are done enough to prepare? I will have to see.
The Chicago class championships tournament in july is a better tournament to play in, if you want less risk. Only $100, and the prize is like $1200, certainly less risk, less reward in that sense, but still a lot of money there, and the competition is still of high quality.

I am not really paying to try to win the prizes. It would be nice if I could win, but I am really after improving my rating and learning more.

I'm playing U2100, starting to actually study openings in addition to tactics and endgames, I still know next to nothing after 1.e4 e5 as both colors...

I don't think so, man. You know a lot of opening theory. Anyways you staying at the hotel or driving back and forth?

The chicago open isn't in chicago. It is in wheeling, illinois.
There are people who drive from Alaska and California to play in the tournament.

It depends. The ones who can run across water were on the Jamaican bobsled team, which everyone thought was a horrible waste of talent.
Anyone going to the chicago open next month? I'm playing in U2300.
