CLIMATE CHANGE...WHAT`S THE PROBLEM?

I may have come in late on this topic but really i don`t understand why all the fuss about the earths changing climate.I know the climate is warming up and the consequences of that and how it will effect human as well as everything else on the planet but why the surprise? FEAR...This is not something that has never happened before or will not happen again, in the past if you did not adjust it could be fatal.

IMBacon22

The climate changes all the time.  It gets hotter in the summer, and colder in the winter.  This is nothing new.

MickinMD

Karpov and Bacon, you speak through ignorance. Yes, there are cycles but we are NOT in one now that explains what's happening.  The Smoking Gun is the USA-France-Russia Vostok Antarctic Ice Core Study which drilled out a 2 km deep core of ice that contained air bubbles that are a record of Earth's atmosphere over 21,000,000 years.  At the peak of each warming cycle, the CO2 in the atmosphere never exceeded 294 ppm.  It is over 400 ppm now!  Another greenhouse gas CH4, is over the past max. by a much higher percentage.

Whatever is happening is NOT a natural cycle.  Is it manmade for sure?  No!  But the probability is high. Just as people who don't expect fire or weather damage to their homes this year would be very foolish to NOT get homeowners insurance, we would be extremely foolish to not react as if the warming is manmade.

There's an off topic thread, so you don't clog up people, you know.

yeah- get this thread out of gen chess discussion
IMBacon22

This has nothing to do with general chess discussion, so im not sure why it is here.

Climate change is just another example of fear mongering.  Keep people fearful so they dont question anything.

Turn the TV off, go outside and enjoy life.

Climate change IS indeed real. Recently i walked out in the sun and trust me it was very hot. very uncommon. i dont know why noone does something because i dont want to stay in my refrigarator any longer...

No kidding...I read something that stated the earth is 2 degress warmer now that it was a million years ago?  I was unable to find the weather report from a million years ago, could not find a single person that could corroborate the claim, and was not able to find the person that tok the temperture that day.  In fact i cant find anything from anyone that can claim to know what the temperature was a million years ago.

MickinMd has been quick to call me ignorant about global warming. It seems some of us are so busy getting our own point accross that we really don`t take the time to read the messages left by people.

To the contry, i actually beleive the earth is warming up and our weather is changing accordingly,my point was that we need to be prepared to adapt or perish.

we invest heavily in technology and need great scientific minds to progress as a species ,

however to fulfill an election pledge to the workers suffering in the coal belts , the 2nd greatest polluter has derided the scientists and withdrawn from any responsibility for their addition to this very pressing issue for us all

sometimes we need to recognise why the ostrich buries its head in the sand

ANOK1

i think its wrong to put short term financial gain above the condition we cause by this frankly blinkered view ,

but i have to say that is a moral duty on behalf of the world for the citizens of the land led by an ostrich to  make it very clear we all suffer from this attitude

a horrifying image , that would mean his pussy would be blocking the sun

What if a massive asteroid hits our planet? Nothing that has never happened before.

lets ask those that lived then , oops it wiped them out

MICHAEL_SCHMIDT_GM

Enough of this stats and pretty pictures it time to stop whinging and prepare for the future because its unlikely we can do much about the weather

The climate change due to the huge industrial development is changing and risking the existence of the civilized world we live in.

@Mickin Quite weird and misleading your words and you tell two guys they talk through ignorance? WoW!

"Whatever is happening is NOT a natural cycle. Is it manmade for sure? No!"

Not natural but only with high probability manmade? At first it is surely caused by humankind -- leaving it to the doubter that there is a small likelyhood that everything could be something else is opening the discussion for dumb people like some monkeys ruling a country. Because exactly such a naive and stupid laying of things is the starting point for other people rejecting the obvious climate change -- Secondly if you really want to talk about a cycle you should show the big picture, telling that such a cycle is not to be seen as a short period of time. The last 100 - 200 years is rather showing a fast abrupt shift in the climate change. These years are just a small snapshot of a way bigger timeframe building a cycle of climate changing through time.

Also it's not always about getting hotter, that's nonsense, a changing climate is causing a lot of things, for example the melting of the ice of the northpole has huge impact on the gulf stream and without a huge part of Europe won't be the same as before, getting really cold!

Putting everything that simple and greenly as you did here you leave the table for arguing against the ongoing climate change.

@MICHAEL_SCHMIDT_GM  so u really think it's unlikey we can do much about the weather? The world has caused it in a really short period of time. And yes, a lot can be done about it! Most is irreversible but accelerating the change with mindless decisions these days is the most stupid thing a living creature can do about the climate change!
