clock cheat

I’m not here to gripe when I lose, I’m not too proud. But I’m trying understand the clock cheat. I realize that there is lag between servers and clock might jump to catch up. But what I just experienced has happened before. My opponent had 24 seconds to move and didn’t. As the clock ran down and they got to zero then their move took effect and the game was over and as that happened MY TIME got switched to zero and their time bumped up to 24 seconds. It was considered their victory on time. That’s not catching up on server lag, that’s time stolen out of my clock and added into theirs. How does that happen?

it lags. they played their move and it was your move, but you didn't see that it was your move because of lag

EricDPeters
If it’s lag then how did the time get added back to their clock?
EricDPeters
It’s not the first time it’s come up.

Ummmm here how it works. Your computer counts their time as going down even though they already made their move, likely due to internet issues. So, even though they already made their move at 24 seconds, your computer keeps counting their time down. Actually, it’s your time that running down now. Then, you run out of time and the server finally syncs to your computer. It registers as such and you lose, with your opponent’s real time, 24 seconds on his clock.
