This cannot happen in OTB games, if your opponent gets up and leaves the building you would see it with your eyes, unlike online chess where you sit there stariing at the board while they suck your clock down to nothing and waste your time.

@Slimcheffy

maybe your time isn't valuable, but I prefer not to have mine wasted by a bunch of clock sucking losers

@aerodarts - great response, I see you put alot of time into it. Too bad you didn't respond to the fact that you claim high rated players that disable chat are cheating. You should be a politician with your sly attempt to deflect. Truth hurts dude, sorry for pointing it out here but i have to call a spade a spade.

Tis a shame sore losers are still trying to justify avoiding losing a few more rating points, when they are a move or 2 from an unstoppable checkmate and they make someone sit for several minutes, while their clock expires avoiding the obvious. I can only imagine the disdainful outcry in the chess world, if one of the top GM's did this to another, making them sit there for 20 minutes, instead of atleast having the decency to resign and admit the obvious, instead of pretending they may have a way out...

...it's a shame there are so many little contempible little rats that frequent this site. I wish Chess.com had the idea in mind to rid this site of everyone who demonstrates an obvious direspect for not only their opponents, but also the site's reputation, maybe perhaps viewing it as a detriment to their bottom line, and also disrespect for the game of chess itself. I guess some people have a different idea of how important the bottom line is and what it should be...

You are a well respected member here, why would you want to encourage more disrespect to not only people playing here, but also for people standing up for what is right ? Your outlandish apples to oranges comparison doesn't down play the importance of integrity and ettiquette ?

We have enough devils and devil's advocates here, we don't need anymore...

I am always prepared by bringing a good book to the board. These "suckers" waste my time by not chatting nor moving. Cheaters, no good sports, all of them. Wasting my life away by playing when I could be complaining!

Multiple tabs in a browser was a wonderful invention.

You apparently missed the point completely.

The point I take is chess cures all. The very nature of the game will bring out the worst in some, the best in others. This can not nor ever will be changed .

I get it. Chess.com can't possibly solve that problem in your estimation, but it isn't a good excuse to make excuses for the behavior of people, or to discourage people from speaking out against injustice...

Since you are admitting that Chess.com can't legislate morality, perhaps they should just change the system so that a win/loss?draw counts the same towards ratings whether by time out, resignation or checkmate ? This would certainly help to get the majority of people to stop wasting other people's time, though there are a probably a few people out their whose pride won't let them quit or be checkmated by certain individuals. I am guessing most people here complaining could live with that. Also, it would leave a a lot less people to investigate for the intentionally abandoning a lost game. Yes, I am well aware of the possibility of technical difficulties. Disconnection is possible to track, especially if it is habitual. Not everyone spills their coffee 10 times a night during a blitz session.

This is exactly what does happen.  If you lose you lose and you lose the same rating points however you lose.

Get it through ur thick skulls. By accepting a challange to play a game of chess for X amount of time, you agree to the terms. Stop whining about an opponents behavior. Laugh it off or resign. You play for rating points? That is your issue. There are those that cheat, abuse the system, so what? Move on to a good game. All this crying, and I suspect many are playing for the wrong reasons.

Get it through your thick skull you knuckle dragging neanderthal, abandoning a game is against Chess.com's fair play policy and shold not be tolerated. You seem to think it's ok to have poor etiquette and total disrespect for the game. Chess does not need people like you, give it up, take up solitaire or something more suited to your caveman intellect, hungry hungry hippos perhaps.

You are wrong. If the opponent times out, there is less of a rating change than if you checkmate them. I had a game that was completely won, one move from checkmate, I was lookin ahead to see how much my rating would change and then after a lengthy wait from an intentional timeout, figured out that I got 2 points less.

I know from previous experience, after losing to opponents whose ratings arose considerably during our game, the rating change remained the same as it was stipulated when the match began. Something else that I think should be changed.
