Is it a good combination?

Why don't Magnus Carlsen or other champions don't drink it during a chess match?

I thought it would increase their ability to think, performance etc..

although chess may not be a physical sport i find myself having to "hydrate" much like i would during a sport

my morning coffee is a necessary part of the day but after that its water, gatorade, and pedialyte- this was my formula when i was playing tennis full time

coffee during a match would not only leave a kind of "heaviness" in the mouth but the jitteriness would be too much for me (combined with the natural excitedness/nervousness of a match under tournament conditions)

also, the need for bathroom breaks would undoubtedly increase as well

Some interesting thoughts here, but I still think coffee maybe not an expresso just a normal one with milk, which not as strong or some strong green tea or matte drink, would be perfect for your stamina.

Coffee + Chess = Chess + Coffee, by the Commutative Property of addition.
