Caffeine is a drug that may help a few times when you are not addicted yet but then it basically becomes a necessity to function normally.

I don't usually like coffee either, so in order to get my caffeine fix I drink copious amounts of green tea. It's supposedly really healthy too.

Safe coffee-drinking is no oxidant.
Coffee is great (black, of course). There are no significant health risks associated with drinking it provided you are sensible and it has been shown to significantly improve cognition. So I would say drinking coffee before a chess game is perfectly safe.

This eventually results someone who stops drinking coffee to be tired much quicker than normal. Thus creating an addiction.
It is not really damaging or unhealthy and will eventually normalize if you stop for long enough. But it still will make you want to drink that stuff and spend unneccessary ressources on obtaining it.

One of my favorite things to do to people, while having a conversation with someone, as another walks up, I will say to them, isn't that right ? To my amazement, 7 out of 10 times, they will say yes, even though they didn't actually hear the conversation.
After they say yes, I quickly reply, the conversation I was just having with the other person was about how people will agree other people and have no clue what they are talking about...
I think that no coffee is better than any coffee. Drink some juice instead. It'll provide more energy than coffee and there's no crash, though a friend of my father's says you can't have a crash if you're drinking coffee all day.

That's too bad I have lots of swell(sic) opinions about faith (and almost everything else too) BUT since you're focused on coffee why not just drink whatever brand/type of coffee you happen to like? AND maybe you should test it's effects on you at some other activity first, it would really suck to find out that you didn't care for a caffeine buzz (or whatever's an excessive buzz for you) OTB wouldn't it?
BTW how is anyone else supposed to determine your "optimal amt?" One of our fascinating traits is that we don't all react exactly the same to equal doses of caffeine, nicotine, narcotics, opiates, cancer meds, etc etc. Those much parodied warning labels on meds aren't for the benefit of 99% of the people who take them, they're for the benefit of the 1% (or less) of those unfortunate few who have adverse or unusual reactions

Just... no. Caffeine is an antagonist only to adesnosine receptors, which partially contribute to inhibiting physiological arousal.
Yes you can build a tolerance to caffeine and yes you can have (rather slight) withdrawal effects, but that has nothing to do with addiction. As mentioned before, recent studies have shown regular coffee drinkers to perform better on working memory tests.
Coffee is perfectly healthy for you (it's all the cream and sugar that's unhealthy), and everyone has different reactions to caffeine. There is no baseline optimal amount to consume, it varies from person to person.
To say that "...coffee is perfectly healthy for you" is hardly accurate is it perfectly healthy for people with hypertension or chronic heartburn for instance? BTW I drink coffee daily so it's not like I'm prejudiced here...
