Nice. Edward Lasker vs George Thomas 1912 except the final move was Kd2 rather than 0-0-0.
a

Oh right, either move works, but I don`t see why Ed Lasker didn`t castle mate, this way is so more classy, and also very rare.

Yeah an odd choice, I would have 0-0-0 for sure for cool factor. If I recall there was a forum about it a while ago with some quotes from Lasker about why he chose Kd2. Possibly it was one of Batgirls history digs.

Strangemover `Batgirls history digs?' please explain,( if you want I will put up other interesting combos.)
yeah Lasker explained that he prefered Kd2 because it appealled to him as an engineer since it required the least amount of moving pieces around. So least effort for greatest outcome.

Here is another beautiful combination, although this one is slightly harder to spot, as the structure is very closed. Hint: don`t be too drastic on the first move.

By the way Buscaglia reesigned after 8.Rcc3, being totally helpless, and depriving Leiser the pleasure of mating him.
PawnStormFTW thanks for that insight.
you're welcome and thanks for the puzzles
. I Hadn't seen the second one before, I got it totally wrong, lol. That was an impressive way of drawing out the king. Even moreso than Lasker's game I feel, because the black king didn't look nearly as vulnerable (to me, at least)

Staff member and regular poster batgirl has written various interesting historical chess stuff in the forums. Yeah Pawnstorm is right about what Lasker said about it. Nice finish in the Leiser game. I remember a quote, maybe from John Nunn 'Any line which drags the opponents king up the board is worth considering, even at heavy material cost' or something like that.

Strangemover Did you get the second combo right?

The first few moves but some slip ups to complete mate accurately- but only because I knew the theme of the puzzle. In a game I would very possibly/probably not have conceived of such an idea and contented myself with trying keep a big space advantage. In hindsight it's forced.
