I am not sure of the official policy, but (if you really want to know) as a tactics moderator who keeps track of the comments on hundreds of tactics I can say it is kind of silly to get about five-ten notifications per day, while only like two comments per week actually raise issues that need my attention
I've stopped posting stats on TT (Formerly Complaint about my comments on TT)

Hello disgruntled sheep :) Point taken and thank you for your response. So if I said something obvious and short like "push the pawn so that you don't get into a windmill situation," does that make for a good discussion? When I see those comments, I just think "oh yeah. I thought that, too". But I don't find them particularly enlightening. Are those short observations good enough? :)
Hi back atcha tonightatsix
I think if we debate every single type of response on TT we are headed down an endless slope to no-where. My comments are really only related to your question about the copy+paste posts as to whether others consider them to be spam. My personal view is yes, from reading this topic, there are others who view this as no.
In another response I read that you mentioned how long it took to post a thoughtful comment. I am unsure why this is seen as a negative thing however. I am sure that the time it takes to write thoughtful comments in this forum you could also have completed other tactic trainer problems too... That's not having a go at you by the way, it was just a thought. Here in this forum you want thoughtful discussion, in TT I want thoughtful discussion. The only difference is that this is YOUR forum and TT is not mine
So my opinion is just that, an opinion. If you find copy and pasting really helpful and others find it the same, then do it, but I won't lie and tell you that I won't find it personally annoying. Such is life

I welcome some of the changes you are going to make in your approach to tactical trainer comments. If you wanted to document how well you did on a puzzle. Perhaps, you could keep a record in a spreadsheet or a database. This could include the problem ID, whether you passed/failed, average time it took you, etc. You could then go back and see if you could complete the previously failed ones or improve your times on the previously passed ones. In fact, this is such a good idea, I am going to do it myself!
Re: blocking me. I originally just posted the picture to see what it looked like and then set about editing it. You obviously saw the unedited version and blocked me, which was probably fair enough. So, it turns out that we dont need to add suppressor of free speech to your previous heinous crime of "spamming" tactical trainer!

"So the amount of time it took me to write one comment, I think I could have done 10 more puzzles."
Are you sure you're not exaggerating here?
Good morning:) The sun's coming up over the hills. How nice it is to start the day sipping coffee and talking about chess! :)
No. Sadly, I'm not exaggerating, Elubas. I had to think about what just had happened in the puzzle, and then obviously had to compose a writing about it, and it took me a long~ time.
As mentioned previously, I also think that an "interesting" comment is a relative term and came to think that stating the obvious in the TT comment section is in the same category as just putting in the stats; - I am not adding much - maybe irontiger and Scott may agree with me on this point, too :) So if I am not adding much, why spend extra time doing that? I just rather do more puzzles.
Thank you for your suggestions though (such as "give a line I was calculating", etc) The thing is.............. I am not calculating much. lol!! OK. I do some rudimentary calculation but the thing is that the way my brain works, I am a visual person (I am a designer) so I am better at recognizing patterns than calculating. So when I face a puzzle, it's like I am looking at a picture. I am not calculating much, I am just looking at it kind of like doing the rubik's cube, you know? You kinda imagine "OK if I turn it three times this way and twice that way, then I will get these colors lined up" kinda thing. One does not think about numbers and coordinates when one does the rubik's cube, one just senses it and does it. This is why it took me a long time to compose my TT comments the other night -- because I was having to turn "gut feeling" into words......... Am I making sense? lol!!
And this process has been useful upto 1600+ puzzles. But now that I am doing 1700+ puzzles at times, I realize I finally have to calculate. I can't get away with just looking. I can't even tell what I am being asked to answer, so I have to calculate. So that's what I am doing these days -- training myself to calculate. haha

Oh and I think Scott was right in saying that I was vain. After my vow to skip the first page, I started skipping the first page......... and lo and behold, a thought creeped into my mind............ "Why do I not see myself on the page?" lol! I got over that feeling quickly but it made me realize there was some vanity there. I am not immune to vanity. And therefore, sorry Scott. You were right and I was wrong. You know me better than I do :) But it wasn't all vanity though.... heehee

it is kind of silly to get about five-ten notifications per day, while only like two comments per week actually raise issues that need my attention
Hello, heinzie :)
I am sorry I am not following what you're saying. Are you saying that tracking TT is no good?
Thank you for your response in any case :) I didn't know that there was Tactics Moderator. Thank you for your work :) Does your job entail removing inappropriate comments and correcting incorrect puzzles?

Got it, discruntled sheep :) In TT, I think I just want to do lots and lots of puzzles. I will leave the discussion to those who like to discuss the puzzles :)

If you find copy and pasting really helpful and others find it the same, then do it, but I won't lie and tell you that I won't find it personally annoying. Such is life
Well I stand by my opinion that I think the stats are fine. I like looking at the changing numbers in different stats:) And it was also like a souvenier picture to me. You know, like those refridgerator magnets you get when you visit different places (do men buy those, too? haha probably not, huh) Anyways, my stats told me where I had been :) They meant so many things to me! haha
But at the same time, I don't like to do things that aggravate other people. It is not that important for me to leave the stats in the comments section. What IS important to me is that I do many puzzles. So I will get on with that :)

It annoys me seeing everyone posting their score as beforehand I just felt people were boasting about how fast they finished the puzzle (I don't think I've ever seen one that had failed)
Your reason is much more acceptable but imagine if everyone wanted to keep track of their score? It'd be unmanagable.

OMgoodness, repac you remind me of my brother who is a self-proclaimed king of excel spreadsheets! haha (he is great by the way:)) I really think that would be fantastic if I knew how to do that. But I think you may have figured by now that I am not a very spreadsheet-database making kinda person. haha! I'm more like sketch some animals and make clay sculptures of my characters type of person :) But I should learn excel though. So many people have suggested to me that I learn the software so that I can make spreadsheets :)

Re: blocking me. I originally just posted the picture to see what it looked like
The picture without the explanation instantly reminded me of "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" in the Shining. LOL Remember that crazy repetition in the thing that Jack Nicholson was typing? haha I thought either you were saying that I was mental like that character or you yourself was mental like that. lol!! And either way, I thought our conversation was done. haha. But then I read your explanation and all was right again :)

So, it turns out that we dont need to add suppressor of free speech to your previous heinous crime of "spamming" tactical trainer!
Yes hold off calling for a tribunal. lol We talked it out, thank goodness :)

if everyone wanted to keep track of their score? It'd be unmanagable.
Hello melogibbo :)
Oh yeah. I didn't think about that. If everyone had commented, there would be pages and pages piled up everyday. That would be something, wouldn't it? Instead of the current 3 pages of "100%!" and "easy!," it would be 100s of pages of those. haha Yeah, that might be too much.

I have now tried out the spreadsheet idea, however I find there is too much dull data entry to make it worthwhile. So, as one of my tactical trainer sessions fill up the whole of the recent problems section in the tactical trainer stats page. I have done a screen dump, and created an image. I have now stored it away for looking at later. This is quite quick and easy to do and may be something you want to try?

Well since the primary definition of spam is sending unsolicited bulk emails, and posting a relevant stat about a tactic in a tactics trainer forum doesn't fit that definition, anyone who claimed it was spam doesn't have a leg to stand on factually.
It's the same as those who call forum threads forums instead of threads.
They think they know what it is they are talking about and those who actually know what we're talking about know what they intended to say, but they were just incorrect.

and posting a relevant stat about a tactic in a tactics trainer forum
A stat in tactics trainer is not relevant information.
"OK, if anyone is complaining to me when I am on the third page, then they have a problem I cannot help."
This would depend not on their complaint, but on the quality of their reasoning toward their complaint ;) I think so anyway.
