Computer chess books, need help!

Hi.

I am trying to run an opening book tournament for chess engine opening books. I was thinking, only the top few books in a quick, small tournament show the possible winners right? So I can just remove the weak ones from the tournament and speed things up, and run more games on the top few books right? Well, then I thought, books are supposed to be able to respond to a wide variety of openings. If two books only play Najdorf, what are you going to do if the book comes across one that never plays it? The book runs out of lines. And the (possibly inferior book) wins since it actually has lines for that opening.

In fact I was just using Tria+JK 1.4L today and found out in one very common opening, the book had no lines! In effect, it'll be very easy to create an "Anti-Tria" book and win the tournament... (Tria+JK was the winner of my last tournament)

What do you guys think? To test Tria 1.5L Varied and 1.4L+ and Aaricia (3 books I want to test against each other), should I put in another 10 books to test its repretoir of openings? Also, running a large tournament full of books is fine to test one book only, but what if it is to test any future books too? I can't imagine running a gigantic tournament of books just to test and new books that come out...
