To answer your last question first, a 0.01 "advantage" isn't an advantage. If you look to the side of the evaluation, the symbol for 0.01 is = The advantage required to win at the highest level is right around half a pawn I would say, depending on the type of endgame you're heading for maybe more or less... but nothing approaching something as small as 0.01
--------
You have to understand how computers come up with these numbers. The programming tells it to assign a value for all sorts of different elements in the position. For example a knight may be worth 3, but then the computer adds and subtracts fraction of points for the knight's placement, how many pawns are left on the board, if it's the endgame, and on and on.
Furthermore, if you let the engine continue to calculate, the evaluation will fluctuate more than 0.01, so the exact numerical value down to hundredths of a pawn is not set in stone, it's just the computer's best guess at that time. Let it play the moves it thinks are best and 5 or 10 moves later the evaluation might change as much as 0.3
So for practical purposes, and before there were computers, evaluations are simplified to seven basic evaluations. White is winning, white is better, white is slightly better, equal, black is slightly better, black is better, black is winning. If you notice to the side of the computer's evaluation it will always give one of these seven symbols : +- +/- +/= = -/= -/+ -+
And because the exact evaluations can fluctuate especially over a series of moves, these are the ones you really want to pay attention to, they are the ones that you can/should expect to influence the outcome of a game.
Computers give a certain position a certain advantage/equality. When one has 0.01 advantage, it´s a draw, so how can I say there is any advantage if i cant take advantage out of having an advantage? does this microscopic advantage mean I have an easier position to play? and if so... how do computers understand what is an easy position to play? they are accurate on calculation, and to my understanding all they do is find weak squares and calculate. If someone could answear my question, "what does it mean to have 0.01 advantage?" Thank you
