converting cbh to pgn etc.

Hi,

Looking for some tech savvy chessers to help me out.

My old computer broke, got a new one, but the old one had Fritz 11 loaded and stored my games and repertoire in a cbh format.  My new computer is a netbook, with no cd drive, so until I manage to get an external drive to get Fritz back on my computer, I downloaded Scid, a free program to store games and so on.  Unfortunately, when I pulled the files from my old drive, I saw that Scid could not read the files.  Does anyone know a way to convert the files to a format that scid could read?   Or perhaps reccomend a better free program?

Thanks,

to you

Tomomori

Probably just ChessBase Light (http://chessbase.com/download/cblight/index.asp?newsid=5654) could fill in for a while...

Thanks Tomomori.  I downloaded it and it does read the files.   Any idea how to append new games to a database on chessbase light?

I've never used light, but you can probably drag and drop database icons within the interface to merge whole databases.

Copy (ctrl-c) and paste (ctrl-v) should also work if you want to merge only selected games from one base to another.

I believe Chessbase Light 2007 and 2009 cannot save games until you input an activation key.  You can buy a key on the Chessbase web site.  For the other alternatives, see this convert to pgn thread.
