Probably takes a lifetime to really learn it...maybe multiple life-times.

That's the beauty of chess to me. It's easy to learn, but almost impossible to master. There's a big range of fun in between.

I would say it is. I've been playing on and off for over a decade now (but I mean like maybe 10 games a year at most per year). So I would say I am a beginner because I have just started trying to REALLY learn how to play. I must say that I was/am very overwhelmed by the complexities of openings, endgames and just overall strategies. So I would say it is definitely hard for beginners, but that's just me.
Is chess in reality a hard game for begginers?
