Could I, a 1200, beat Magnus...

Unless he drinks too much, falls asleep and you win on time, no.

You probably can't beat him, but it's extremely easy to never lose to him.

(I would definitely get crushed).

You think you would get crushed by Magnus if he was drunk, tired, not focusing on the game and playing a 3 board blindfold simul? You're a FIDE CM right?

Assuming you were motivated, and in a decent frame of mind I think you would win easily, I don't even think it would be close.

Even someone like me would thoroughly crush magnus in that scenario.

No disrespect intended but I don’t think you’d even be favourite against a 2200 in that scenario. In fact I’m pretty sure it’d be carnage.

I don't think you properly understood the scenario. I know some 2200s who struggle to play a single blindfolded game legally, let alone a 3 board simul while drunk.

Listen having him drink to impair his thinking might seem like a handicap but against a very low rated player magnus wouldnt have to think to beat you. He would simply use his pattern recognition and knowledge of chess theory to blow you off the board within 20 moves( ie have a winning position not u getting mated although that is also probable)

It’s blitz so anything is possible

To put Carlsen's playing strength in perspective:

In 2014, Carlsen played an exhibition game with unusual conditions:

- Carlsen had 1 minute on his clock

- His opponent(s) had 5 minutes on their clock

- Carlsen was on his own

- His opponents were 3 Grandmasters, consulting together to agree upon moves

- Carlsen was not allowed to use assistance

- His opponents were allowed to consult the chess engine Houdini (allowed to use engine assistance to check their moves)

Even in these conditions, 3 GMs working together, with the help of an engine, and at 5 to 1 time odds ... they were still unable to beat Carlsen. The game ended in a draw.

I don't think being drunk is an odd unless you drunk too much.

I remember there was a podcast between Gotham and Giri where they talked about it, Anish even said being drunk makes you play better blitz.

@fjb7 (post 25),  are you related to Patrick Stewart,  the guy that played Jean Luc Picard of Star Trek?

ok. How about this. If I STILL cant beat him with all of these things, then let's say that every 5th move is the worst move in the position. That should be enough. he would lose his queen by the 5th move, or something like that.

DreamscapeHorizons

This is Magnus hungover.  Possibly.

Ok. people are mixed. so lets add more. On top of magnus being drunk (10 shots, whiskey), Tired (lets say no sleep in 48 hours), Blindfolded, and in 3 other games with me, he is also forced to play a bad move every 5 moves, constantly in pain (broken arm), someone is interrupting his thinking by talking constantly in his ear, there is a bad smell next to him (lets say hyena urine) and on top of that, he is given the wrong move every 10 moves. Would this be enough to stop the Super-GM?

Was this supposed to be funny?

What is considered a bad move? A positional concession or a free queen?

You want to give him the wrong move? That makes no sense. Why don't you just choose his moves for him as well? Then you can checkmate him in 3 moves

How do I say this is stupid without sounding offensive?
