Current Abort Function Favors Black
Currently, black can abort even after white makes a move. Let's say you only know how to play against E4 and White starts with D4. Black can now abort and move on to the next one. Let's say you don't like playing as black - abort and move to the next one.
The function needs to be changed to either allow white and black to abort after each player has made 1 move, OR no aborts allowed after move 1. If black can see the first move and decide they don't want to play against it, white should be allowed the same freedom, or it shouldn't be allowed at all.
Third option: lessen the amount of aborts a player can make before they become resigns.
Aborting too often results in the loss of the ability to abort. Also, trying to abort when getting black isn't going to necessarily help in getting white, since each seek has a random color allocation and over the long haul, the player is still going to get pretty even colors (and begin having to resign, play, or lose rating by abandoment after too many aborts).

On the contrary, black aborts much more often.

I understand this. On the macro level, aborting seems balanced. On the micro, game level, it clearly favors black.
Be careful though if you live in Texas because if you abort you can be sued for $10,000.

I think if you look at most members, with a sufficient number of games, they'll likely be pretty balanced. So over the the pools, it's going to be close to 50/50 no matter what.
I was under the understanding for Daily games no restrictions are in place to abort. Also, the comp making the pairings roughly kept the White/Black ratio 50/50. Such that the long shot chance of receiving to many of the same color in a row is over-ridden and will make compensation to create an equal balance. Soon as too many games with White - players will only find themselves paired as Black - hence aborting as Black becomes futile if wanting to play only White.
Stats will show a very close balance for all players over any number of games played. A substantial imbalance is never seen ( but would happen if pairings were totally random.) The pairing comp ensures a rough balance over 10, 100 or 1000 games. The pairings are not 100 % random in cases when the balance has exceeded a certain %. Is this a correct assessment?

No, it's completely random, or as random as can be. The exception is for someone you've played before, where you'll get the opposite color from your last game. Completely random will trend towards even, though statically, there could be some outliers with gaps, but it's unlikely to be very large (but still possible).
I used to think the site attempted to track due color based in historical allocation, but was told that was incorrect.
