d4 defenses
I actually used to play the white side of the reverse-Sicilian, but right now I'm going for the Indian defenses against 1. d4 (because I love the KID).
Anyhow, this thread was less about what opening to play, rather, getting in some practice with what I do play.
You might try this variation of the Sicilian, I have just swtiched to using the Sicilian over the Nimzo-Indian. I must say I'm liking the fine mess the Sicilian makes of things.
that isn't the sicilian, the sicilian isn't even played against d4
Guess what, I have a book on openings right here Under heading Sicilian defense Sveshnikov variation so I'm going with the book... Personally I don't care if it is played "often" against d4, I never said it was, I was merely making a suggestion to give it a try...
the thing is though, that wasn't evena d4 opeing, it was an e4 opening.... if you play c5 against a d4 opening you get into some kind of benoni. the sicilian is only played against 1 . e4. you can get a reversed sicilian after 1.c4...
i think either you or the book made a mistake: the sveshnikov is the same thing as what your diagram says, except the the first move should be e4 instead of c4. This is the sveshnikov:
this is the same position as what you have, but a pawn on e4, not c4

I'd like to work on my games as black against 1. d4 (need to practice forming/carrying out plans in the games that result from those types of openings).
Anyone want to play a couple 3+ day/move games? Please send a challenge my way! Rated or not, whatever.
