d4

Hi all. i am an amateur player. when playing black i have problem to counter with 1d4 . what is good answer to this move? i can deal with 1 e4 but d4 is confusing for me. please help.thanks

Well first of all there are many different choices that can be dynamic or solid depending on your style of play. My favorite defense to 1.d4 is the grunfeld defense (1.d4 nf6 2. c4 g6 3.Nc3 d5) since it has a lot of counter-attacking chances for black. I also like the modern benoni defense since it is very dynamic with tactical bombs and postional play. The last option i recommend is finally a 1.d5 system, the slav defense. The slav is known for it's solid but somewhat dynamic structure, i especially am fond of the semi-slav which say white enters the botvinnik variation even black gets a very sharp and irrational game.
