Daily chess with OTB rules

As far as I know in daily chess you may use two things you are not allowed to use in OTB chess

- trying out combinatons

- opening theory

Actually with a friend I do play on here according to OTB rules, which means that we do not use opening theory and that we do not touch a piece unless we move it.

Of course it's a matter of trust to play like this, but I am actually looking for people you like to play by these strikter rules. And I thnik maybe there should be a category with it's own set of rating for that, somethink like OTB without time pressure. Especially tactically it's very different from daily chess, since you have to calculate everything in your head.

This is exactly how i use it too, and based on the play of my opponents, i find that most people seem to do the same. At my level (around 1700) people don’t seem to know infinite amounts of theory, and they certainly blunder often enough that i don’t think they typically use the analysis board during games either.

it's incredibly trust based but it could be worth creating a club with the request that the analysis board isn't used. the difficulty would be if someone lost and accused the other player of using the analysis board.

One purpose of daily chess is to intensely study certain openings and combinations so that you'll feel comfortable with them in OTB chess.  Consequently, I don't see why anyone would want to play a game in a daily format if they are not going to examine opening variations or consider how to properly Pawn Storm a kings position.  Why not just set it to 1 hour/game, etc.?

MickinMD: Why not set it to 1 hour per game?

Because I never have time to sit down and play a one-hour game (family, work). I can find time during the day for what corresponds to a few one-move situations in a classical time control: Five minutes here, ten there, it depends. To mimic actual OTB play as faithfully as possible, I refrain from using the analysis board or opening books myself. I of course do not require it from my opponents, but I appreciated that Marco expressed the same ideas.
