IMBacon,
Yeah, that's basically what I'm using, but what I'm trying to do is remove (for example) all the "Germany 1971 Under 11 Championship" type games, which often don't show any ratings at all, without removing the Fischer-Petrosian 1971 Candidates match, which also doesn't show any ratings. And of course without scrolling through a million games by hand.
Not sure I'm going to be able to.
I am going to revisit this question, with a partial answer, in case anyone else has similar, but also still a partial question, in case anyone can add more information.
In particular, it appears choosing the "good games" box goes a long way toward achieving what I want. Almost all the recent games which come up have at least one player 2200+, usually both players are so rated, and on the other hand older games by known players also come up, even if they never were world champion (as an example Tartakower seems to be on the approved list). So, this seems close to what I wanted.
However, I do still get some recent games with ratings as low as 1300 on both sides... Are there any chessbase experts who know what's going on there? Maybe the whole tournament was selected? Maybe these people became much stronger so their early games are left in? Just wondering what's going on.
Use PowerBook. That's what I use. That and Chess Informant.

Ah, thanks. This did occur to me as a possibility but I wasn't sure how well it would work.

The Opening Tree is one aspect. The games from which the opening tree are assembled all exist in a searchable database.
Those 1300 rated games are games of players that became titled players later.
I did it like this: Until 1976 or so (where players had no ratings), I filtered only good games. Copy paste those games to a new database.
And then from 1976 to 2021 filter by ratings you want to have in your database. Add those games to the new database as well.

Thanks. This seems a good plan.
Good evening all,
I am attempting to do some opening analysis using a Chessbase "Big Database" and I notice that a lot of the games are from fairly weak players. Perhaps I should not be talking, considering my own rating, but I'd like not to be influenced by games with weak players, say below about 2200 elo. Of course I could sort as such, but then this will also leave out all master games prior to the elo system, which is also not a desired result. I'm sure somebody smarter than me has already created the database I'm looking for, or at least has the parameters in mind that would generate it. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
