"Dead Chess" would provide an interesting contrast to the chess.com "Live Chess" option. I understand chess.com is working on an alternative to "turn-based chess" too. I'm not sure what not taking turns would look like.
Time travel would eliminate the need for an intermediate. I suspect Fischer might still present problems for the organizers.

One thing thats always intrigued me, is why a chess match between all the world greatest chess players, who are now longer with us: Capablanca; Fischer; Morphy; Alekhine; Lasker or Staunton... etc... Has never taken place?
The games could be played out through a clairvoyant and relayed onto a giant screen. This could be the biggest event to happen in chess since the Deep Blue - Kasparov games of the 1990's.
