Dealing with Tilt

Tilt is something I think every chess player at some point in their life experiences. You mouseslip, lose a winning game, or just get angry and we keep on playing with the mentality that we will stop when we win a game and we lose more and more and progressively get angrier and angrier. Feel free to give advice on dealing with tilt and share it with me and the community. My advice is to walk away from the computer. It's a lot harder over the board though. Feel free to give your thoughts!

I play thru them.

Theres not much more you can do when giving away missed wins or lose an end game or miss basic tactics like myself because we all have good days and bad days.

It would be a different story if you are getting blown out of the water by comparable competition.

Tilt is (1) an endocrine issue; (2) waning gibbous moon; or (3) blunder demon possession. I suffer from the latter. She is a capricious demon, though, and will move on to torment someone else in about two weeks. Moon will be waxing again in about two weeks. The tilt will pass. You’ll have a 17 of 20 win streak again if you hang in., so be brave.

Quit before it's to late. When you notice you play one bad game after an other you should sometimes just get up and go for a walk, get back to work or whatever favors you the most. Just stop playing chess then. It will only get worse from there on. :tilt
