I am trying very hard to learn to play this game at a decent level. For me that would be around 1500 or so. I am semi retired and I use my free time to study and practice several hours a day. Would it be possible for me to have someone who knows this game well to review a few of my games and comment on where I need to improve on? I try using a chess engine, but it just shows what the best moves are. It doesn't tell me why a move is good or why a move is not good. I'd like to know about positions, what my game plan should have been, what my opponent was planning, if anything. I rate about 950 and I know that's very low. Perhaps I just don't have the ability to learn how to play as well as I would like to. I don't know, but I'm willing to work at it. Thankyou.
As tigerprowl suggested. Post some of your losses, and members will analyze them for you. But as a general opening idea, you should follow the Opening Principles:
